Accentus Austria, founded by Thomas Wimmer in 1988 in Vienna, is an ensemble specializing in early music. The group features varying lineups, often incorporating guest musicians for different performances and recordings. Wimmer primarily plays the viola da gamba, fiddle, and laúd, while Michael Posch and Wolfgang Reithofer are core members who play recorders and percussion instruments respectively. Accentus Austria focuses on early Spanish music, emphasizing its improvisational elements. Their repertoire spans from popular music of the early 16th century to polyphonic sacred and secular works of the late 16th century. The ensemble has released several albums, including Sephardic Romances - Traditional Jewish Music from Spain (1996), Cantadas de pasión (2005), Romances Séfarades dans lâempire de la Sublime Porte (2006), and Serenata Hungarica (2012). Their album Galán: Fire & Ice was released in 2013. Accentus Austria has performed extensively across Europe, Israel, and Morocco.
