6LACK, born Ricardo Valdez Valentine Jr. on June 24, 1992 in Baltimore, Maryland, is an American R&B singer, rapper and songwriter raised in Atlanta, Georgia. He began recording as a child in his fatherâs studio, later developed through battle rap, and joined the Atlanta collective Spillage Village in 2014. After an early label situation stalled his first years in music, he signed with Love Renaissance and Interscope and broke through in 2016 with Free 6LACK, led by "PRBLMS", which reached the Billboard Hot 100, earned multi-platinum certification and helped the album receive a Grammy nomination. In 2017, he opened for the Weeknd on the North American leg of the Starboy: Legend of the Fall Tour. His second album, East Atlanta Love Letter, arrived in 2018 with guest appearances by Future, J. Cole, Offset and Khalid, debuted at number 3 on the Billboard 200 and included "Pretty Little Fears", a Grammy-nominated collaboration with J. Cole. The same period also brought "OTW" with Khalid and Ty Dolla Sign. In 2020, 6LACK released the EP 6pc Hot, featuring "Know My Rights" with Lil Baby, and appeared with Gorillaz and Elton John on "The Pink Phantom". In 2021, he reached number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 with Lil Tjayâs "Calling My Phone". After several years between albums, 6LACK returned in 2023 with Since I Have a Lover, featuring QUIN, Wale and Don Toliver, and earned another Grammy nomination. He followed with the acoustic project No More Lonely Nights in 2024, then released his fourth album, Love is the New Gangsta, in 2026 through LVRN/Interscope, with tracks including "Bird Flu", "Sunday Again" with 2 Chainz, "Ashinâ the Blunt" with Young Thug and "All That Matters" with Leon Thomas and AZ Chike.
